How do the Geotrackers services work? What hardware equipment do we need?
It is simple. In employing a tracking system, users install a tracking device called a Vehicle Tracking Unit (VTU) into their vehicles. This VTU includes a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver and a GSM/GPRS modem alongwith the requisite GPS antennas. The VTU receives location updates every second from the 24 orbiting GPS satellites. This information is transmitted back to internet servers maintained by Geotrackers, allowing you to track and monitor your field workforce and assets online and in real-time.
How do the tracking units transmit data?
The tracking units transmit data over the GPRS network provided by GSM network operators.
Do I need any special hardware or software to access the tracking data?
No special hardware is needed to access the tracking data. You only need an internet enabled PC, to logon to the Geotrackers web-site using your unique username and password.
Can I track my fleet or vehicle from anywhere?
Yes. All you need is an internet enabled PC, to logon to the Geotrackers web-site using your unique username and password.
Can my fleet be tracked anywhere in India?
Yes. Geotrackers tracking solutions work over the GPRS network, and your vehicles can be tracked all over India using the wide spread GSM/GPRS network.
What do I do if I want to track vehicles outside India?
You can easily track vehicles traveling outside India, by equipping the Geotrackers tracking units with a SIM card from a local GSM network operator, with GPRS plan activated. Also, you will need to send us the GPRS access point name, alongwith the mobile number of the SIM card, so that we may remotely configure the unit to start sending data to the Geotrackers servers.
What network does the Geotraclers hardware operate on?
The Geotrackers hardware operates on the GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz networks.
What happens if my vehicles moves to an area with no GSM/GPRS coverage?
The Geotrackers intelligent vehicle tracking unit will store data in it's internal memory, and once the vehicle moves to an area with GSM/GPRS coverage, then the stored data will automatically be transmitted to the Geotrackers servers.
How accurately does Geotrackers track vehicles?
Typically within 10-15 metres.
Does GPS work under covered areas (e.g., tunnels, parking garages)?
No. GPS utilizes satellites for accurate tracking. If the sky is inaccessible to the mobile unit, tracking cannot take place.
Will bad weather affect GPS?
This is highly unlikely. The sky must be blocked by an object for GPS to be affected.
For how long is the tracking data stored on Geotrackers web-site?
We will typically retain tracking data for a period of one year for each device.
How long does it take to install?
Installing the Geotrackers vehicle tracking system is much like installing a car stereo and will take about the same amount of time, depending upon the make and model of the vehicle.
Where can I learn more about the GPS technology?

Could the tracking unit interfere with a pacemaker?
The GPS receiver will not create any interference. However, the cellular modem used with the unit may interfere with a pacemaker. Consult your physician for further information on this topic.
